Core Values
We believe in these 5 principles
Empowerment is the level of choice, influence and control that users of mental health services can exercise over events in their lives. Empowerment can be developed: being respectful and non-judgemental.
Independence– provide support to clients in achieving the maximum level of independence and quality of life. We value equity, diversity, and inclusion, and we listen to understand.
Advocacy We work alongside with people who have developmental disabilities and their families as well as government to shape public policy that is practical and progressive. We bring a collective voice to the developmental services sector.
Teamwork – Work collaboratively to provide the highest level of care and value the contributions and input offered by clients, family members and treating professionals.
Inclusion is a practice woven throughout Developmental disabilities or Autism Ontario. It is a practice we have long advocated for within the autism community, as known ASD people and their families are often excluded, judged, ignored, or intentionally harmed. Inclusion must also extend beyond autism towards intersecting communities of race, religion, ethnicity, gender-identity, sexual orientation, and more. No matter how it changes, grows, and takes shape, inclusion makes space; hate does not.
